Aris Thessaloniki survived a 4th quarter surge from Greek rivals Maroussi to tie their FEL play-off series at 1 game each. It has been a tough few days for Aris who triumphed last week against Olympiakos in the Greek Cup. Facing elimination from the FEL for the second time this season, the 2003 FIBA Europe Champions Cup winners rallied to defeat Maroussi and take the series back to Athens for a decider.
The home side definitely had the hotter hand throughout the game. They hit Maroussi for 32 first quarter points and shot 66% from 2-point range and 56% from 3-point range for the game.
In fact, they controlled proceedings thoughout. They held a 60:44 lead at halftime and Maroussi were able to make little inroads into the advantage in the 3rd quarter. Maroussi, who currently top the Greek league, did threaten a comeback in the 4th, but time ran out on them and Aris held on comfortably.
Aris are still without top scorer Nestoras Kommatos who is out with injury. Ryan Stack stepped up in Kommatos‘ absence to score 22 points on 9/11 shooting. Toby Bailey added 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Smush Parker had 21 points.
Andre Hutson was the only Maroussi player to cause Aris problems on the offensive end as he scored a game high 27 points.
