Bamberg waved farewell to their European season after losing the second of their 3 game series to Vrsac, 70-79, behind a strong performance from veteran Milenko Topic (21 points).
After trailing 0-1, the game in the Forum was a do-or-die one for the home team and the match developed into a real play-off battle.
Bamberg began with an unusual line-up, with guard Derrick Taylor (13 points) starting instead of rebounding machine Chris Ensminger. The result was a quicker team which Bamberg used to their advantage, running the break and opening the game with a 10:2 run.
Vrsac answered on the inside and some good work on the offensive glass from young center Vladimir Tica allowing the visitors to take a 1-point lead, 17:18, at the break.
Bamberg were the more aggresive side in the 2nd quarter. Hard nosed defense led to 5 steals and also limited Vrsac's leading scorer Nebojsa Bogavac to just 3 points. Chris Ensminger was his usual force on the boards (he finished with 19 - a season high among all players) and Bamberg took a 40:34 lead into halftime.
Bamberg began the 2nd half with a 3-pointer from Rick Stafford, and with a 45:34 lead, seemed to have the game well under control. However, on the ensuing possession guard Steffen Hamann picked up his 4th foul and Vrsac went on a 10:0 run, tying the game at 47.
Bamberg were suddenly reeling and found themselves trailing by 56:62 at the end of the third. The visitors showed no signs of slowing down and big shots from Bogovac and Topic kept them in front.
Bamberg had one final comeback chance when a Jason Sasser 3-pointer cut the lead to 4 points with 2 minutes on the clock. But clever defense from Vrsac forced Bamberg to commit several turnovers down the stretch, ending their FEL hopes for this season.
