Telestet Maroussi Athens 71 NIS Vojvodina 72

NIS Vojvodina got their second win of the FIBA Europe League this evening after a thrilling encounter against Maroussi Telestet.

Hungarian guard Istvan Nemeth was the hero on the night for the Serb and Montenegrin club, as his 2 clutch free throws with just one second on the clock, sealed a 72:71 victory for Vojvodina.

In fact, Vojvodina only arrived in Athens 3 hours before tip-off, a fact which did not seem to effect their performance on the night. They led for almost the entire contest mainly thanks to their solid defensive play.

Nonetheless, Maroussi had a shout at winning the game, which they nearly did after Oliver Popovic hit a 3-pointer with 8 seconds on the clock, to give his side a 1-point lead, 71:70.

Before Maroussi had a chance to celebrate, Nemeth found himself on the free throw line with a chance to win the game. Although he missed both of his previous attempts, he dug deep and nailed both shots.

Vojvodina star Milan Gurovic had an off night, as his shooting touch seemed to desert him (14 points on 2/8 3-pointers and 2/6 free throws). Bench player Predrag Suput stepped up in his place to score 23 points, while Nenad Canak added 17.

Forward Georgios Karagkoutis was the top scorer for Maroussi with 18 points.
