In a battle of 2 of the top teams in Group D, Maroussi overcame Nahariya to claim second place after 10 games. Maroussi suffered a set back this weekend at home in the Greek League, where they lost their first game of the season after winning 10 in a row.
In the FEL, however, Maroussi have now won 6 on the trot and another assured team performance brought them their 7th win in the competition.
The game was probably even easier than the Greeks had imagined, and after a 28:10 first quarter run, Maroussi were comfortable for the remaining 30 minutes.
Coach Yiannakis paid tribute to his bench players after the game and his team shot 72% from 2-point territory. Ivan Grgat hit 8/9 to lead his side with 21 points. Roderick Blakney added 18 points on 5/6 shooting and 2/4 from behind the 3-point line.
Stevin Smith led Nahariya with 23 points.
Panagiotis Yannakis, Head Coach, Telestet Maroussi:
"We were expecting a difficult match. We managed to crash the boards and find our rhythm. We got great help from our bench players who are our strength."
Giorgos Tsiakos, Telestet Maroussi:
"Our main concern was to win this game. We only concentrated for the spread in the final minutes."
Avi Ashskenzi, Head Coach Strauss Iscar:
"We played very poor from the beginning, especially our defense was way too soft. It was very negative that Cambell was sick. We have gained our qualification to the next round. We are looking forward to the next game against Vojvodina, where we will find out in which place we will finish."
Uri Kokia, Strauss Iscar:
“We played really bad, despite the fact we managed to control the spread. Maroussi found their rhythm and unfortunately we couldn't react."
