GAME REPORT

02.12.2003
Sluc Nancy 92 Strauss Iscar Nahariya 99

Nahariya took a huge step towards qualifying for the FIBA Europe League play-offs after their 92:99 road win over Sluc Nancy. The win was particularly sweet for Nahariya guard Stevin Smith, who was named MVP in the game against his former side.

Nancy hurt themselves by playing very sloppily in the first quarter which was dominated by the visitors. Eric Campbell excelled inside while Uri Kokia asserted his authority on the boards.

Nancy could do nothing to stop Nahariya as their inside strength resulted in multiple second chance opportunities.

The Israeli team led 12:24 at the end of the first, and increased the difference in the second, going into halftime ahead, 31:46.

Nancy fought back in the 3rd quarter and with Nahariya forward Sharon Shason in foul trouble, they began to make leeway. Vincent Masingue and JoJo Garcia stepped up inside and Fred Vinson provided the perimeter threat and Nancy gradually cut into the lead.

The 4th quarter saw an offensive outburst from the home side and they poured in 38 points. Unfortunately for them, Nahariya scored 36 of their own and while Nancy flirted with a comeback, the lead was just too much for them to overcome.

Nahariya guard Smith struggled from the floor, shooting just 1/6. He made up for it in other ways though, hitting 10/11 free throws, dishing 12 assists, pulling down 5 rebounds and coming up with 5 steals.

Masingue top scored for Nancy with 19 points, but fouled out after 28 minutes of action.
