GAME REPORT

Ural Great 94 Honka Playboys 51

Ural Great went into tonight’s home game against the Honka Playboys as huge favourites, and did not disappoint as they dispatched the Finnish champions, 94:51.

Honka have yet to win a game this season in the FIBA Europe League, and Perm was certainly a tough place to start. Ural Great are unbeaten at home, where they have amassed a perfect 4-0 record.

True to form, Ural Great found their defensive rhythm almost straight away, not allowing Honka to score until the 6th minute of the game. The first quarter finished 21:6 in the home team’s favour and Ural Great were well on the way to a comfortable night’s work.

To Honka’s credit, they went on a 10-0 run in the 2nd quarter behind guard Steven Woodberry. But it would not be enough, as Ural Great finished the quarter up 40:25 and in complete control of the game.

The onslaught continued into the 4th, where Lithuanian center Ksistof Lavrinovic took over for Ural Great, scoring 14 points and leading his side to their biggest win of the season.

Lavrinovic finished with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Stevan Nadjfeji was named MVP and scored 13 points on 6/9 shooting.

Rich had 20 points and 9 rebounds for Honka.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Ural Great - Honka Playboys

Sergei Belov, Head coach Ural Great:

Today the most important thing for us was not to think about the level of the opponent we have to meet but to show the best of what we are capable of. I can understand my players who might not want to show maximum of their abilities playing with a team lower in stature. But anyway, in every game I see my team making one step forward. We are playing the basketball I want them to play and I am very glad about that.

Stevan Nadjfeji, Forward Ural Great Perm:

It was a good game. We played well in defense, especially in the first quarter. Honka has a very good coach but this year their players are young and inexperienced. We will have to play our next FIBA Europe League game on the road in Latvia with Skonto. Last time in Perm they played very well. But I think we are able to beat them because Ural Great is a strong team and with each game we are becoming better and better.

Mihailo Pavicevic, Head Coach Honka Playboys:

First of all I would like to congratulate Ural Great. We are two teams on different levels. Today we had to play against one of the best teams in our group having very strong players and good coaches. As for us, I would say for 80% of Honka guys it is the first time on the international level. We could not do anything against their defense.

Shawn Huff, Forward Honka Playboys:

We knew it would be a very tough game because Ural Great is the best team in our group. But the way we started the game has no excuses, second quarter went a little bit better but still not good enough to decrease the point difference.
