CBC Siroki managed what no other team in Group A has this season, namely defeating Unics Kazan.
Kazan have been able to raise their game at the right moment throughout the competition, and anytime danger loomed they have powered away from their opponents. However, against Siroki, the home team proved to be mentally stronger, particularly down the stretch.
Perhaps Kazan were tired from their weekend victory over Russian Superleague rivals CSKA Moscow. Whatever the case, they found themselves 15 points down at the end of the first quarter, 30:15.
Kazan had particular problems containing Jasmin Perkovic. The 23 year old Siroki center caused the Russians problems the whole night, torching them for 25 points (on 8/8 shooting from inside the arc).
Kazan finally found their game in the last period when they were able to score 34 points and give themselves the chance for a 12th consecutive victory. Siroki, though, held their nerves and strong defense and good free throw shooting gave them the victory they derserve.
The Bosnian side now face a nervous wait, as Azovmash’s game against Le Havre will determine whether they qualify to the play-offs.
