Unics Kazan continue to romp through the FIBA Europe League and are the only remaining undefeated team, at 6-0.
It was no different tonight as they combined strong defense, fast break basketball and good outside shooting to easily defeat Oostende 68:98.
Kazan raced out of the gates to score 10 unanswered points in the opening minutes of the game. To Oostende's credit, they overcame the bad start and manged to get back into the contest behind some good shooting from Joey Beard.
However, by the second quarter Oostende were on the rack, as Kazan hit 8/13 3-pointers to take a 62:35 halftime lead.
Kazan's advantage was such that the 2nd half was a mere formality. Oostende Coach Eddie Casteels used the opportunity to field some of his younger players but any hopes of victory were long gone.
Chris Anstey continues his inspired play for Kazan. He had 19 points on 8/11 shooting (2/3 three-pointers) and earned MVP honours. Alexander Miloserdov added 17 points for Kazan.
Beard finished with a team high 14 points for Oostende.
Eddy Casteels, Head Coach, Telindus BC Oostende:
"In the first quarter we missed a couple of shots and made some bad decisions which allowed Kazan to take an early lead, after which they never looked back. All the credit goes to their very strong team."
Joey Beard, Telindus BC Oostende:
"They have a big athletic team with a great individual defense as well as a good team defense. I will remember that we fought back in the second half."
Stanislav Eremin, Head Coach, UNICS:
"As a coach, no game is easy. We had a though game 2 days ago against Moskow and had a difficult and long trip over here. We played good defense and were great in offense. I am happy about the result but not about the quality of the game."
Chris Anstey, UNICS:
"We started the game very well and in the second half we slipped away a little bit. This was the credit of Oostende."
