Lotos VBW Clima Gdynia takes temporary residence at the top of Group A this week after a home win over Russian side Samara.
As the qualifying round winds to a close each game takes on more and more significance as wins and losses could mean the difference between a play-off berth or exit from the competition.
Gdynia managed to take the sting out of the match-up with Samara by literally running them off the court. The game was only competitive for the first 6 minutes, after which Gdynia dominated.
Samara is the 3rd leading team in the EuroLeague Women this season at an average of 37 per game. Gdynia, however, neutralised that threat by hitting 67% of their shots from inside the 3-point arc and outrebounding Samara 40-32.
Another encouraging point for Gdynia was the performance of point guard Limor Mizrachi. The Israeli national team captain has struggled in the EuroLeague Women since signing with Gdynia. Last night she had her best game of the season scoring 15 points and nailing all three of her 3-point attempts.
Elaine Powell top scored for Gdynia with 19 points and Margo Dydek had 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Ilona Korstine was Samara's most effective player with 16 points and 9 rebounds.
MVP: Limor Mizrachi
