Ros Casares Valencia 85 Lavezzini Basket Parma 53

Ros Casares took care of business in their latest EuroLeague Women outing, with a clear win over Lavezzini Parma in the Fuente de San Luis arena. A noisy 2,500 fans turned out to support their club into the top 4 of Group B and towards a possible play-off spot.

Domingo Diaz' team got off to a great start, led by Trish Fallon who scored her side's first 8 points. Only Gordana Grubin's great outside shooting prevented the home team from pulling away. As the first quarter proceeded, excellent offensive rebounding kept Parma close until Valencia's Ingrid Pons subbed in and stepped up the defensive boards. As a result, Ros Casares were often able to run the fast break. Parma switched to zone defence, however to little effect against Amaya Valdomoro's drives to the hoop.

The second quarter started as the first had finished: with an inspired Marta Fernandez running the fast break. Lavezzini's poor shot selection in the following minutes allowed Ros Casares to extend their lead to over 10 points (25-14), however, Grubin again led the counter-attack hitting from outside.

Once more, Valencia, and in particular Michele van Gorp, hit back with tough defence and at the end of the first half the score stood at 34-26.

Coming back from the break the hosts went on a run, from which Parma were never to recover. The Italians lost the ball on several consecutive possessions, due to Valencia's tight defence. As Daliborka Vilipic picked up her 5th foul, Ros Casares never looked back, stretching the lead to over 20 points. Coach Diaz was even able to use young players Sandra Ygueravide and Eva Smolka to give Fallon and Elisa Aguilar a rest.

With this win Valencia move into the top 4 in Group B, alongside Brno, Pecs and Gdynia who are all sitting on 7 wins and 4 losses.
