GAME REPORT

Win over Georgia Puts France in First Place

Only with the opening of the final day was the uncertainty of first place in Group C resolved.

That coveted position went deservedly to France with their 72:55 (10:9, 37:29, 54:41) win over Georgia.

The first quarter was marked by an intense defense and a very small number of points.

By the second quarter Manuchar Markoishvili (2) and Viktor Sanikidze (3) lined up the Georgian 'big guns'-three pointers, while on the other side a united French offense counted nine equally energetic players.

Going from the second into the third quarter the French pulled out their biggest ace - a fast, united and talented defense. This slowed Markoishvili (12 points), while the French managed to find a solution the far reaching shots of the Georgians (4/17 in the second half).

When the 'Pau Orthez' center Johan Petro took the 'Tricolors' to a +12 (48:36) lead the result of the game became clearer. Till the end of the final buzzer nothing unexpected occurred, the excellent French team managed to expand the lead.

Souarata Cisse with 18 points and seven rebounds (in just 21 minutes) was again the foremost French shooter. Sanikidze, with 19 points and 6 rebounds led the Georgian list.
