GAME REPORT

Maccabi Bnot Blast Their Way Into Semis

8. Shay Doron (Israel)
Israel international Shay Doron led the way for Maccabi Bnot with 26 points

Maccabi Bnot are the first team to secure a place in this season's EuroCup Women Semi-Finals after a rapid-fire start propelled them to a wonderful 87-60 road win at shell-shocked UE Sopron.

The hosts were highly fancied to advance having lost only once all season and that was the one-point defeat in Ashdod during the first leg of their Quarter-Final, but the absence of Kayla McBride was significant.

Sopron were left trailing in the wake of an early Maccabi whirlwind, as the visiting team blasted their way into a 21-8 advantage and never had cause to look back.

Not only did Eliyahu Rabi and his team hold their opponents at arm's length for the rest of the contest, they even built their lead up as they pushed towards the finishing line and a famous win.

Sopron had the chance to make adjustments in the locker room at the half, but it proved to be futile as Maccabi continued to score with worrying ease for the crestfallen home supporters.

They outscored Sopron 28-20 in the third quarter, with the lead reaching a peak of 69-40 late in the period after a jump shot by Dannielle Diamant, who used to play in Hungary with home rivals Uni Gyor.

However it was her Israel national team colleague Shay Doron who did most damage with a brilliant 26 points, while Tiffany Jackson added 15 points and 11 boards for the triumphant visitors.

Sopron were led by Bria Hartley who finished with 14 points.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: Uniqa Euroleasing Sopron vs. Maccabi Bnot Ashdod

Igor Polenek, UE Sopron Head Coach
"Congratulations to Maccabi and good luck to them in the semi-final! We played bad today, but the season in EuroCup Women was nice. We have to look forward now, our season is not finished yet."

Orsolya Zsovár, UE Sopron
"We started the game bad. We couldn't realise anything we had planned. We really wanted to go to the semi-finals, but it seemed that on the court, Maccabi was more motivated."

Eliyahu Rabi, Maccabi Bnot Head Coach
"I'm very happy. Our defence was the key, it was almost perfect. I respect also the team of Sopron, they have a good team. That's why this win has even more value."

Tiffany Jackson, Maccabi Bnot
"We knew that Sopron has a good team, and they had also shown it in the first game in Israel. So we worked a lot on our defence to stop them. It was successful."
