Laura Macchi has spoken of her immense pride at being selected to play in the EuroLeague Women All-Star Game.
The Italy international was among the most deserving players to make the European team after a very impressive season with Beretta-Famila Schio, a team she led at both ends of the floor.
The 30-year-old Macchi averaged 17.2 points per contest and on defense averaged two steals per contest.
"At the beginning, I couldn't believe it," Macchi said.
"Rarely in the past had an Italian player been considered for an All Star Game.
"The last player to do so was Francesca Zara.
"It's a recognition that fills me with joy and it's a reward for the work done with the national team last summer and for the work done with Schio this season."
Being able to take part in All Star Game has put Macchi in such a good mood, in fact, that she's going to thank her teammates in a very Italian way.
"I have already told my teammates that I will invite them for supper," she said.
"It seems obvious to me that if I have been called up for the All Star Game, it's also the merit of my teammates.
"I don't know many of the players that I will meet in Gdynia, but I am very happy because I know it will be a beautiful experience."
