One of the best all-around frontcourt players in Europe, Nevriye Yilmaz will celebrate her 31st Birthday at EuroBasket Women 2011 and she will be looking for it to be a happy one and to make up for the agony of missing the action in Latvia in 2009. A dominant figure in the paint, Yilmaz is a tower of strength for Turkey and yet for all her talent and attributes, she is known for remaining humble and very much a team player. Whether she has her back to the basket or is facing up to a defender, she ahs an array of skills necessary to convert the situation into points. She is almost unstoppable when catching the ball within a couple of metres of the basket. With excellent footwork, the ability to pass in the lane to her teammates and her unquenchable thirst for rebounds, she is a nightmare for opposing coaches. It is difficult to reduce the impact of Yilmaz as her superb record over the years with both the National Team and her club sides have proven. Much of this is also due to her willingness to set the tone and lead by example in her approach to the game and work-rate. She is a EuroLeague Women All Star player and has won a host of trophies in her career while in a Turkey vest. Her monumental efforts are epitomised by the fact she recorded tournament double-doubles for her country at both EuroBasket Women 2005 and 2007. |
