Rivas Ecopolis are making sure that Spain's Liga Femenina will not be a two-horse race between Ros Casares and Perfumerias Avenida in 2010-11. The Madrid club, which reached the EuroLeague Women play-offs this season at the first attempt, signed Spain internationals Laura Nicholls and Elisa Aguilar over the weekend. The additions mean that Rivas now have four Spain national team players, with Anna Cruz having penned an extension on April 29 and Aguilar's Ros Casares teammate Amaya Valdemoro having joined on May 10. Aguilar, 33, has captured numerous trophies for Ros Casares, including Supercopa, Copa de la Reina and Liga Femenina in each of the last two seasons. This season, she helped Ros reach the EuroLeague Women Final Four. With Spain, she has been a regular in the team since the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Nicholls, 21, has joined from Hondarribia Irun. Having won gold medals with Spain's youth teams, she played for the country at the 2008 Olympics and at last year's EuroBasket Women in Latvia where she helped Evaristo Perez's team capture a bronze medal. Rivas say they are holding talks with Crystal Langhorne, their star center from last season. Langhorne apparently wants to join the team after the beginning of the campaign, contrary to the wishes of the club. Rivas have confirmed, meanwhile, that Jelena Dubljevic, Cathy Joens, Elin Eldebrink and Andrea Csaszar will not return to the club for 2010-11. |
