The schedule for the first-ever EuroLeague Women’s All-Star game and the events surrounding the Year of Women’s Basketball have been finalised.
The EuroLeague Women’s All-Star game will feature top players from Europe taking on the World team on 8 March 2006 in Pecs, Hungary at 18:00 local time.
Prior to the opening tip-off, various activities will be held relating to the Year of Women’s Basketball, which is prestigious initiative by FIBA Europe and its member federations to bring focus to women´s basketball in order to improve recognition and respect for the sport in Europe and all female participants in the game.
The official unveiling for the Year of Women’s Basketball will take place at a lunch for players, media and officials on Tuesday, 7 March at the Hotel Stadion in Budapest. FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin and the Year of Women’s Basketball Project Manager Esther Wender will make opening comments and address all in attendance. Samara point guard Ilona Korstin, who was selected as the face of the Year of Women’s Basketball, will unveil the logo at the lunch.
Later that day, both teams will be taking part in practices open to the media. The World team’s practice will run from 16:30 – 17:15, to be followed immediately by Europe from 17:15 – 18:00. Following the practice, the players will take part in a community relations event with local children.
The EuroLeague Women’s All-Star game will feature some of the best female basketball talent in the world. The European squad includes Maria Stepanova (Russia) and Amaya Valdemoro (Spain), both of whom play at the club level with Samara. Americans Diana Taurasi of Dynamo Moscow and Yolanda Griffith of UMMC Ekaterinburg are among the notable names representing the World team.
