A New Identity For European Women's Basketball

25.07.2008

The U18 European Championship Women taking place in Nitra, Slovakia this week is a showcase for some of the best basketball talent in Europe.  It also highlights the growth of the women's game and the steps taken by FIBA Europe to give European Women's basketball its own identity as decided by the Board of FIBA Europe on 11th November 2007.

Two teams competing in Nitra: Romania and Ukraine are wearing a new uniform designed by the manufacturer TUTA in cooperation with FIBA Europe.

The uniforms are designed with comfort in mind but are also meant to given European teams a unique look which will be recognized around the world.

"The play of European women's teams speaks for itself but these uniforms help to give our teams an identity that sets that apart."  Commented FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin.

The project is part of the larger undertaking growing from the Year of Women's Basketball, which officially ended last October.  It also includes an initiative aimed at increasing the visibility of women's basketball players in the community through social activities.
