Italy Shock Poland

05 July 2007

Italy dealt a blow to Poland's chances of making the semi-finals with a 63-58 victory over the team that scored 100 points just a night ago.

Poland now need a victory from Sebia in their game against Ukraine Thursday evening to advance.

The Italians did not secure victory until 17 seconds remained when Costanza Coen made two free throws for the five-point cushion.

Coen had a team-high 15 points while she corralled six rebounds.

Poland took a 16-6 lead but were unable to press home the advantage, and the Azzurre responded by going in front midway through the second quarter.

Nausicaa Fassina's three-ball allowed Italy to go into the break with the score level at 33-33.
