Pirsic Hoping To Play In A Mask

Sandra Pirsic is hoping to receive clearance to play in a mask after a broken nose threatened to rule her out of Slovenia's EuroBasket Women Division B campaign.

The Ibiza center was hurt in a warm-up game against Bosnia & Herzegovina on Friday when she took an elbow to the face.

She had surgery on the injury, which would normally take six weeks to fully heal.

But she is still hoping to be able to take part in the Division B campaign, which starts on Saturday against Sweden before contests with Portugal and Norway.

"The injury is feeling better than expected," she said. "The pain is almost gone and I can breath normally.

"Everything is now hanging in the air. I am waiting for a specialist opinion, but if they give me the green light to play in a mask and it is safe, I would like to try. Why not?"

Coach Boris Zrinski is certainly hoping Pirsic is able to feature.

He will otherwise be down to 11 players, and missing one of the more experienced campaigners in Pirsic, who has 38 caps at the age of 25.
