PLAYER HISTORY
Cristina Ciocan Sandulache

Career: South Carolina (USA-NCAA, 2000-04), Livas Targoviste (Romania-D1, 2004-2005), Breogan Lugo (Spain-Liga Feminina, 2005-06); Maccabi Tel Kabir (Israel-D1, 2006-07)

Sandulache is the only Romanian player who had a real shot at playing in the WNBA. After 89 games and 78 starts for the University of South Carolina, she was injured towards the end of her career and missed her chance at being drafted. In the NCAA, she had a very promising junior season, averaging 13.6 points per game but her numbers dropped a bit as a senior (11.7 ppg). One of Romania's best young basketball players, she helped the U20 National Team to a bronze medal finish at the 2000 European Championship. Her husband, Stefan, is coach of the U16 men’s National Team in Romania and has a basketball school in Bucharest. Sandulache’s mother, Viorica, played 10 years for the National Team. Cristina’s love of basketball is not confined to the professional arena. During summer break you may find her on the playgrounds of Bucharest, simply playing with her friends.
