|Center Astou Ndour posted her first double-double in the tournament in Spain's latest triumph |
It was another easy evening for Spain, the favorites of the Global Vision U18 European Championship Women, as they beat Romania by 48 points, 25-73.
In the first game for both teams in Qualifying Round Group E, Spain did not take their foot off the gas at any point and outscored the hosts 22-5 even in the last quarter to win in style, just at they did in their Preliminary Round games.
Undefeated Spain joined Sweden at the top of the group with this result, while Romania are joint bottom with Slovenia, both with nill points with two games left to play.
Romania didn't have any answer to the fast paced game of the Spanish side, and didn't manage to score more than eight points in any of the four quarters.
Sonia Ursu was the only Romanian player in double digits, with 10 points, and she added nine rebounds.
All Spanish players wrote their name on the score sheet, led by center Astou Ndour, who posted a double-double, 13 points and 12 rebounds, to go with three steals and two blocks.
Romania lost 25 balls and were outrebounded 31-63. Spanish defense was suffocating and, as a result, Romania had only 49 shot attempts and made only nine of them.
Spain will play next against Turkey, while Romania meet Slovenia on Tuesday.
