SEMI-FINALSThe Netherlands are into the final of the U18 European Championship for Women Division B after holding off a furious rally to top Greece 60-57.
In a thrilling final quarter, the Dutch went on an 11-2 run, highlighted by Marlou de Klijn's three-pointer, to turn a 48-48 tie into a 59-50 lead with 3:56 to go.
But Greece, unbeaten in this competition until Saturday, did not go quietly. Artemis Spanou's lay-up sparked a 7-0 run that got them right back into it, with Spanou again getting the basket as they made it 59-57 with 42 seconds left.
But Grigoria Paterki then missed a lay-up with nine seconds left, forcing Greece to foul. Gabrielle van den Bosch made one of the two free throws, and Anastasia Slouka's three-point attempt missed at the buzzer.
De Kleijn led the Dutch with 28 points, while Slouka had 18 for Greece.
The other semi was also a thriller as Romania held off a Belarus rally to triumph 62-60.
Romania had led by 11, 52-41, early in the fourth quarter, but watched Belarus come storming back to tie it with an 11-0 run capped by Natallia Baklaha's free throws.
Romania responded, with Cristina Bigica's lay-up putting them on top, 62-56, with 1:03 to go. Maryia Filonchyk cut the gap to four but then missed a three-pointer and although Darya Lipinskaya made a jump-shot to put the score at 62-60 with 12 seconds left, they could not get the ball back for another go.
Bigica and Gabriela Cursaru led Romania with 18 points each, while Filonchyk collected 17 for Belarus.
Nora Georgieva exploded for 40 points to lead Bulgaria to a 61-55 win over Montenegro, while Keren Mozes had 25 points and seven rebounds as Israel led Estonia 55-48.
Gritt Ryder scored 23 points to lead Denmark to a 68-53 win over England, while Sonja Greinacher's 16 points and 10 rebounds helped Germany top Portugal 57-46.
Katarina Pujlic's 21 points highlighted Croatia's 78-64 win over Finland, while Nikolina Milic had 16 as Bosnia & Herzegovina edged out Switzerland.
