Barba Putback Hands France Win Over Turkey
Lucie Barba scored a putback basket at the buzzer to give France a win over Turkey, 57-55 in another thrilling game finale on Day 2 of the U18 European Championship Women 2010 in Poprad, Slovakia.
When Mélanie Devaux hit a jumper at the end of the first quarter, France were up 14-11.
France tried to push the ball inside and played with success in the paint, but Turkey tied the score twice before Özge Kavurmacioglu hit an off-the-glass triple and Nihan Demirkol copied her at the halftime buzzer with the very same shot that send Turkey ahead 28-24.
France couldn't pick the rhythm after the break and failed to score for more then five minutes in the third quarter, when Turkey extended the gap to double digits (36-26).
Les Bleues opened the fourth quarter on a high pace and an impressive 13-0 run brought them back into the game, but Turkey regained their composure and Kavurmacioglu made both free throws to tie the score with only six seconds to go in regulation. France missed a three-pointer, but Lucie Barba grabbed and offensive rebound and hit the buzzer beater that handed France an important win.
