Many of the players that have represented Italy in youth competitions in recent summers will make up an experimental Italy side and work out with national team boss Simone Pianigiani next month.
Among them are several members of last year's team that finished runners-up to Spain at the U20 European Championship in Bilbao, including Andrea De Nicolao, the 1.85 guard of Benetton Treviso who averaged 8.4 points, 2.8 assists and 4.1 rebounds.
Others in that side that played so well in Bilbao and will be with Pianigiani and the other senior national team coaches in June are center Riccardo Cervi, forward Achille Polonara and guards Marco Santiangeli and Riccardo Moraschini.
The youngsters will have their first practice on 4 June in Bologna and will play four friendly games.
They will go up against Greece twice in Athens between 17 to 21 June, and twice against France in Pau and Boulzac from 26 to 29 June.
"The players of the experimental national team will be able to train in post-season with coaches of the national team and play with other national team players of a good level, hence, it will allow them to increase their international experience," Pianigiani said.
"We have chosen players that have the possibility to grow and improve in the future.
"They are athletes, that even in the future, will be closely monitored for the senior national team."
Italy's senior team will this summer attempt to punch their ticket for EuroBasket 2013 in Slovenia.
Pianigiani will coach them in Qualification Round Group F against Turkey, the Czech Republic, Belarus and Portugal.
