Israel have 22 players in their preliminary squad for this summer's EuroBasket 2013 Qualification Round campaign.

The biggest absentee from last year's side, Cleveland Cavaliers forward Omri Casspi, is among those named.

Casspi hurt his knee in the build-up to the EuroBasket Final Round in Lithuania and withdrew from the team, depriving national team coach Arik Shivek of his biggest weapon.

The 2.04m forward, who moved from the Sacramento Kings to the Cleveland Cavaliers last summer, averaged 7.10 points and 3.50 rebounds in 65 games for the Cavs.

Israel will compete with Serbia, Montenegro, Iceland, Estonia and the Slovak Republic in Group A - arguably the toughest of the six Qualification Round pools.

The top two sides in each group and the four best third-place teams will progress to the Final Round in Slovenia.

Israel lost their first three games at EuroBasket 2011 but finished with victories over Latvia and Italy and ended the tournament in joint 13th place.

The team's first game in the Qualification Round this summer is on 15 August at Montenegro.

Oded Katash and Eric Alfasi will serve as the assistant coaches to Shivek.

Israel preliminary squad: Gal Mekel, Yuval Naimi, Yogev Ohayon, Yotam Halperin, Tal Burstein, Afik Nissim, David Blu, Guy Pnini, Lior Eliyahu, Uri Kukia, Yaniv Green, Elishay Kadir, Robert Rothbart, Omri Casspi, Moran Roth, Ido Kozikaro, Sean Daniel, Nitzan Hanochi, Dagan Yavzuri, Sylven Landesberg, Dan Grunfeld and Isaac Rosefelt.
