Career: Montrose Christian High-School (USA. 2002-03). Missouri (NCAA. 2002-05). Drafted in the first round of the 2005 NBA Draft (#27) by the Portland Trailblazers (then traded to the Denver Nuggets).
The revelation of EuroBasket 2005? Antanas Sireika, the coach of Lithuania, likes Kleiza very much. At 20, he plays like a senior. Very strong physically (113kg at 2.03m), a tough-nosed power forward, Kleiza has a competitive mentality. Using a vast array of moves and fakes around the rim, he can score against any opponent. At least at the NCAA level (16.1ppg and 7.6rpg). A little bit greedy on offense (only 40.3%FG in NCAA), Kleiza can shoot from the outside (12/29 three-pointers at the 2004 U20 European championship, where he combined 17.5ppg and 4.8rpg and got the bronze medal). He is a little undersized for his spot, is not a leaper, and some say his game is more like that of a center. |
