Kleiza Takes Weekly Gong In Greece

No one was better in Greece's top flight over the weekend than Olympiacos' Linas Kleiza.

The Lithuania national team star had 20 points and seven rebounds in his team's 82-77 win over Aris, a result that kept the Reds on top of the standings.

As a result, Kleiza, who left the NBA for Olympiacos in the summer, was voted as the league's MVP of the 14th round.

"I don't care much about individual prizes," Kleiza said.

"I do thank those who have honored me and voted for me, but what interests me is that the team wins and fortunately we did."

Olympiacos went into the game on the back of an impressive win at Caja Laboral in the EuroLeague Top 16.

"I think in the first half (against Aris) we were too lazy, especially on defense," Kleiza said.

"Our minds were elsewhere, maybe in Vitoria, but we started to play well on defense and that's why we won.

"In any game that we play good defense, the opponent has no chance to beat us. The same should apply for Wednesday with Khimki (in the Euroleague).

"It was a great atmosphere and I expect even more people coming to games. It's different playing in front of so many people. It makes you play better."

Kleiza edged out Costas Harissis of Kolossos to win the award.

Harissis had 18 points and eight rebounds in his team's 79-75 victory at Ilisiakos.
