Jaka Lakovic - EuroBasket 2011 Profile

Team 2010-11: Regal F.C. Barcelona (Spain-ACB)

Career: Slovan Ljubljana (Slovenia-1A, 1997-2001), Krka Novo Mesto (Slovenia-1A, 2001-02), Panathinaikos (Greece-ESAKE, 2002-06), Regal F.C. Barcelona (Spain-ACB, 2006-11)

As one of Slovenia's most experienced players, the role of Jaka Lakovic within the national team is that little more important now as he teaches the new era of young Slovenian players what it takes to win. Jaka is still of course contributing himself and was a standout two years ago in Poland when Slovenia obtained their highest ever placing. This was mainly down to his dead-eye accuracy from behind the arc. Lakovic can, on his best day, rains down triples with ease, if you dare to leave him open. He has also proven in the past that he can win games with this long-range shooting. Lakovic prefers to shoot from the corners of the arc, and can still surprise defenders with his quickness and footwork inside. He definitely needs to be marked tightly on the perimeter, keeping an eye on high screens, since in the past, Slovenia have used the high screen to get Lakovic open to set his feet and shoot.
