Andris Biedrins has left Latvian fans disappointed with his decision not to pull on a national vest this summer

After leaving Latvian media and fans alike guessing for the past week, Andris Biedrins announced on Monday his desire not to represent his country this summer.

27-year-old Biedrins, who last represented Latvia in his country's failed 2009 EuroBasket campaign had initially been named in Ainars Bagatskis' wider training squad for this summer's big event.

However, when the team assembled in Riga on 18 July, Biedrins was a notable no-show with the national set-up failing in efforts to contact the soon-to-be Utah Jazz center.

On Sunday Biedrins appeared in Tallinn, Estonia with former national teammate Kaspars Berzins to support Latvia U20 in their historic gold medal clash with Italy at U20 European Championship Men.

He then teased media, leaking a photograph of himself outside of the arena - the first sign of him in a week - leading to speculation that he would be at training alongside Berzins and the rest of the national team on Monday.

However, on Monday basket.lv posted Berzins' confirmation he will not be playing, but rather focusing on regenerating his wayward NBA career with the Jazz.

The silver lining perhaps for Coach Bagatskis is the performances of the U20 team in which more than one player, namely forward Ojars Silins, produced performances that confirm they are ready to help out the senior team if called upon.

Latvia will begin their campaign in Slovenia on 4 July in Jesenice when they take on Bosnia and Herzegovina - a team they already know well having been pitted against them during the Qualification Round.
