19 August 2009

Belarus remained unbeaten in EuroBasket Division B after winning at nearest challengers Romania on Wednesday.

Dzianis Korshuk poured in 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds - both highs for Belarus in their 78-70 Group B victory.

Romania trailed for most of the game and fell behind by 11 points early in the fourth quarter.

They managed to close the gap to 64-59 with 4:21 remaining but Aliaksandr Pustahvar made a lay-up and followed that with a three-pointer for a 69-59 lead.

Belarus were in control for the remainder of the contest as they claimed their fifth win in as many games while dropping Romania to 2-4.

Switzerland won 55-54 at home over Cyprus in the other Group B game.

The game was tied at 51-51 inside the final minute after Andreas Pilavas' driving lay-up.

Thabo Sefolosha made a pair of free-throws and David Ramseier dunked to settle Swiss nerves as they went in front 55-51.

Aristides Koronides hit a three-pointer before the end of the game that was too little, too late for Cyprus.

Sefolosha had a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds for Switzerland while Panagiotis Trisokka scored 18 and pulled down 10 boards for the Cypriots.

Both sides are now 2-3.
