Fourth Quarter Surge Propels Austria


Austria blew a close contest wide open in the fourth quarter and beat Iceland 85-64 in Klosterneuburg.

Magnus Gunnarson’s three-pointer with 2:35 to go in the third quarter gave Iceland their last lead at 49-47.

A Bernd Volcic free throw gave the Austrians a 51-50 advantage, and the hosts led for the remainder of the contest.

In the fourth quarter, Austria outscored Iceland 32-14.

Benjamin Ortner was a force for Austria, scoring 32 points, grabbing 13 rebounds and blocking seven shots.

Last weekend, Austria were staring at an embarrassing defeat to Luxembourg but hit back for a two-point victory.

Now they are 2-2, and still with a chance to win promotion to Division A.

Logi Gunnarsson poured in 14 points for Iceland, who dropped to 1-3.
