Peter van Paassen scored 19 points, including eight in the final 3:11 of the game, as the Netherlands got past Belarus 74-61 in the teams' EuroBasket 2007 opener in Minsk.
The Netherlands had been leading for most of the game, but clawed their way back into the game with Mikalai Aliakseyeu leading they way.
Aliakseyeu free throws with 3:53 to go in the game got Belarus to within two, 57-55, but van Paassen then scored six straight points on jump shots.
The third jumper put the Netherlands ahead 63-57 with 2:09 to go and one minute later he made a pair of free throws to put the Dutch up 69-61 with 53 seconds to go.
The Dutch made their free throws over the final minute to secure the win.
Kees Akerboom also scored 19 points for the winners, while Yahor Meshcharakou tallied 17 for Belarus.
Netherlands had stormed into a 15-8 first period lead courtesy and held onto the lead throughout the second period to hold a 30-22 advantage at half-time.
Netherlands continue their qualifying campaign against Great Britain in Edinburgh on September 9 and Belarus travel to Albania on Wednesday.
