Great Britain lost a heartbreaker as Belarus took victory by a single point in the EuroBasket Division B qualifier at Ponds Forge.

A frantic final quarter finished with Britain coming up short as both Andrew Sullivan and Roger Huggins had shots blocked in the dying seconds.

Trailing 69-65 with less than a minute to go, Britain got within a point on a three-pointer from Nate Reinking.

The shot clock ran out on two Belarus attacks as Britain put up some stern defense.

When Pavel Ulyanko lost the ball, Yahor Meshcharakou could not recover it and Britain coach Chris Finch called a time-out with 7.7 seconds remaining.

With Reinking marked out of the game, Sullivan tried a jumper but saw it blocked. Huggins grabbed the rebound but was squeezed out under the basket as the buzzer went.

"They [Belarus] capitalized on our mistakes and we just couldn’t get a break when we needed it," said GB head coach Chris Finch.

"There’s still a lot left to be played and we have a year to prepare.  I'm happy with the overall performance during the four games," he continued.

Britain had been chasing the game virtually all the way.

Clinical finishing from Belarus in the first quarter saw them move in to a 22-12 lead before the hosts closed to 24-17 at the end of the period.

But Steven Hansell’s basket early in the second quarter sparked an 8-0 run for the hosts, with Chris Sanders’ free-throw giving them a 25-24 lead with 6:30 left to half-time.

Andrew Sullivan had seven points in the second quarter, but missed four free throws in a row as the clock ticked down, allowing Belarus to take a slim 34-32 advantage into the locker room.

Sullivan struggled form the line all night, and finished two of 10.

Despite his free-throw woe, Sullivan finished with a team-high 18 points and seven rebounds for Britain, with Reinking adding 13.

Ulyanko led Belarus with 17 while Meshcharakou had 16.
