Portugal Come From Behind To Post Second Win

Portugal continue to impress in the EuroBasket Qualifying Round after coming back in the fourth quarter to defeat Bosnia and Herzegovina 80-78 in Sarajevo.

Carlos Andrade was the offensive hero as he scored seven of his 15 points in the final minute of play, including a go-ahead three-pointer, to help Portugal pull of the upset win.

Damir Krupalija’s jump shot put Bosnia and Herzegovina in front 67-60 midway through the fourth.

Portugal didn’t surrender and consecutive three-pointers from Miguel Minhava cut the deficit to one and forced Bosnia and Herzegovina to call timeout with 3:48 remaining.

Jasmin Hukic hit a three coming out of the timeout for Bosnia and Herzegovina and following a Portuguese turnover, Sasa Vasiljevic made a pair of free throws to put his side back in front by six, 72-66, with 2:36 seconds to go.

Again, Portugal refused to go quietly.

After exchanging points, Paulo Simao hit a three-pointer to cut the deficit in half, 74-71 and following a Bosnia and Herzegovina turnover, Andrade hit a jumper to bring Portugal to within one, 74-73, at the 1:03 mark.

Another Bosnia and Herzegovina gave Portugal possession and Andrade’s three-pointer gave Portugal a 76-74 lead.

After Henry Domercant made one of two free throws, Andrade went back to the line and made two free throws with 24 seconds remaining to put Portugal up 78-75.

Hukic missed a three and Simao made two free throws with 12 seconds remaining to put Portugal up 80-75.

Portugal controlled the first half and led 39-33 at intermission.

Bosnia and Herzegovina went on a 10-2 run in the third quarter to tie the game and then pulled ahead by seven points by going on a 10-3 running during a six-minute stretch spanning then end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarter.

Francisco Jordão led Portugal with 16, while Hukic was the high man for Bosnia and Herzegovina with 17.

Portugal controlled the boards, out-rebounding Bosnia and Herzegovina 37-19.
