Lubos Barton

For the Czech Republic’s deadliest shooter Lubos Barton, shining brightly on the EuroBasket stage is old hat.  At the start of new millennium experts predicted he would become the second Czech player to go to the NBA after Jiri Zidek Jr., but that never happened, even after a successful four-year stint at Valparaiso University and a fantastic appearance in EuroBasket 1999. That time, as a 19 year-old newcomer in a little-fancied Czech team, he was the best shooter in the preliminary round, averaging 22.3 points per game. Against Lithuania, he made all six of his three-point attempts and shot a red hot 61% from three-point range overall!  After not being drafted by any NBA team, the self-confident forward came back to Europe. With Fortitudo Bologna, he was a runner-up in the Italian League and played two Euroleague seasons for Fortitudo and then Lottomatica Roma. After transferring to Spanish club Joventut Badalona, he earned his first significant trophy last year: the EuroCup. In the final game, against Khimki Moscow, he led the winning side with 18 points. He was again a key player for DKV in the 2006-2007 season, but in the opening game of Euroleague eight-finals he dislocated his shoulder. The Czech National Team will once again rely on his outside shooting.
