The Olympic door looks to be shut on Peja Stojakovic and Zeljko Rebraca as neither has joined up with Serbia & Montenegro at their mountain training base in Zlatibor.

Stojakovic, the Sacramento Kings superstar and a member of their 2002 World Championship winning side, is arguably the country’s top player but other commitments - including the need to fulfil his military commitments in Greece where he took citizenship while playing professionally before moving to the NBA - are ruling him out.

Atlanta Hawks reserve Rebraca is reportedly suffering from a back injury.

The deadline earlier this week that national team boss Zeljko Obradovic set for both has

passed, and he now only wants to focus on the players who are taking part in the workouts.

"For us, it is most important to be focused on two types of training,” Obradovic said.

“In these 12 days, players will have approximately 90 minutes of running in the morning training, and two hours of practising offence and defence in the evening.”

Obradovic has a good idea about the makeup of his team, but the absence of Stojakovic and Rebraca, the MVP of the 1998 World Championships, are opening up two spots.

“It's too early to speak about 12 players who will represent Serbia and Montenegro at the Olympic games, as all of these 17 guys will have their chances during forthcoming days,” he said.

“Still, we have a specific situation, as some of our players finished the season 90 days ago, and some of them only last week.

“We can't work with all of them with the same programme, but we'll make a team that will play strong and very fast basketball."

Captain Dejan Bodiroga hurt his ankle at the first training in Zlatibor but will have a quick recovery, according to team doctors.

"It's nothing serious, but I've felt a pain at our first training here, so I quit the workouts. It's better to pause for a couple of days than to cause some bigger injury trouble".

Forward Dejan Tomasevic, bothered by a leg injury at the start of the tournament, joined in light training on Friday.

Crvena Zvezda's guard, Goran Jeretin, is fully fit despite doctors’ assessment at the end of June that he may be out for the entire month of July with a leg injury.
