Aydin Ors (Coach, Turkey):
We committed important mistakes in the first half. Especially, the pick&roll defense was a failure. Also, the shot selection was poor and this caused problems for us in terms of transition defense. Croatia is a marvelous team, a group of very talented players. In order to surprise the opponent, we came out of the locker room with a defensive line-up. The injury that Kerem Tunceri picked up in the third minute of the game hurt us defensively, but at the same time, the introduction of Harun Erdenay helped us offensively. I believe harsh critiques on us have been answered in the most appropriate way with us going to the semifinals. We are dependent on only one player. Our style is team play and we have executed well in that sense. However, I would like to especially about the great effort that Mirsad has committed tonight. This team is going to the World Championships next year and I am proud of that. In the beginning of the second half, we have opted to play short offenses because otherwise, it couldn't have been possible to overcome the big deficit. This required a lot of different players using initiatives a lot more.
Mirsad Turkcan (Player, Turkey):
We had only concentrated about going to the semifinals before the game. This was about 3 months of preparation and intensive workouts. I would like to congratulate all my teammates and our coaching staff.
Aleksander Petrovic (Coach, Croatia):
This game has two separate phases: First half, we played great basketball. We were able to execute well and to perform what we had planned before. However, the turning point of the match was Prkacin missing a layup on the offensive end and commiting intentional foul on Kutluay on defense. I would also like to talk about officiating. We obviously shall have a better opinion when we watch the game tape but I think the match was over at the end of regulation. The aspect that created most trouble for us was the 3 big men line-up, including Turkoglu, Turkcan and Okur, that Turkey used. Turkcan and Okur are very special players in the sense that they can play both facing and with their backs to the basket. This caused a lot of problems for us because we are more used to playing conventional big men.
Damir Mulaomerovic (Player, Croatia):
We played very well in the first half. Then, we lost our rhythm. I also think that time was out during the last possession. We probably will have a better opinion after a tape review. I would also like to congratulate the Turkish players for their huge effort and intensive play.
