Iva Vecerova has championship medals from EuroBasket 2005 and this season's EuroLeague Women but basketball has not been all fun and games in recent months for the Czech Republic center.
The 27-year-old decided to have a second operation on her knee this week which she injured last summer while play for the national side.

Vecerova was a major part of Gambrinus' run to the 2005 EuroLeague Women Final Four

| Vecerova had averaged more than five points and four rebounds in 22 minutes per contest at the EuroBasket in Turkey but then hurt her knee in her country's gold medal win over Russia and needed surgery.
Vecerova missed much of this season with Gambrinus Sika Brno, although she did make two EuroLeague Women appearances - both in the Final Four - as the Czech team beat US Valenciennes and then BC Volgaburmash.
Now she is going to miss out on Gambrinus' best-of-five championship series against USK Praha in the Czech top flight which gets underway on Saturday after opting to go under the knife on Wednesday.
Vecerova told www.bkzabiny.cz : "This operation was not as difficult as the first one. Doctors cleaned out fragments in my meniscus. I decided to have to this operation after talking with coach (Jan) Bobrovsky because I want to be ready for the preparations for the FIBA World Championship in Brazil."
Gambrinus, who swept Slovanka Chomutov in the first round and then Sparta Praha in the semi-finals, will still be prohibitive favourites in the championship against USK Praha, the other Czech side to take part in the EuroLeague Women.
Those five post-season victories kept Brno undefeated in the Czech top flight after they prevailed in their 18 regular season games.
As for USK Praha, they were 16-2 and then defeated Valosun Brno and Kara Trutnov in the play-offs to reach the final. |
