De Mondt: Postcards From Salamanca

Anke De Mondt (Halcon Avenida) Guard Anke De Mondt is in her third season with Halcon Avenida Salamanca and helped her team reach the Final of EuroLeague Women in 2009 by contributing over 10 points per game. She also has extensive National Team experience with Belgium and has played in major tournaments such as EuroBasket Women. Anke is writing for FIBA Europe to give us her insight on the 2009-10 EuroLeague Women season.

Hi everybody, here I am again after the opening month of some absolutely great EuroLeague Women basketball!

Starting with my own team, we definitely started off on a really bad page after we lost our opening game of the new EuroLeague Women season with that home loss against Wisla Can-Pack.

However after that disappointment on the very first night of the competition, we really picked up our game. We managed to rack up two wins on the road against Gospic Croatia and Mizo Pecs 2010 and also achieved a victory in our other home game against ESB Lille Metropole when I thought that we all had a great game as a team.

It seems like we have really been travelling a lot and the games come really fast, one after another non-stop! Of course this is because we also do a lot of travelling in Liga Femenina too!

It won't get any easier for us just yet because we're already looking ahead at yet more travelling because we are focusing on two away games in EuroLeague Women and two road trips in our domestic league also.

I suppose the good thing is that we can reap the benefits later on when we are going to have a lot more time on our home floor! I certainly know that our fans are really getting very eager now to see some games although we do have some that travel everywhere with us. That is really fantastic, to have that support wherever we go!

Turning the attention to the action elsewhere in EuroLeague Women I think it is now clear for everybody to see that absolutely anything can happen! Just take a look at some of the results so far and some of those games.

Ros Casares beating UMMC Ekaterinburg by a big margin and then Cras Basket Taranto turning around and beating Ros Casares! Elsewhere in Group C we had KSSSE AZS-PWSZ Gorzow beating Bourges Basket and of course a Spanish team and one of our Liga Femenina rivals in Rivas Ecopolis currently unbeaten with a 4-0 record!

I think it is pretty clear that reputations count for nothing and that every team in this competition has to really come out strong on every single night to be able to take a win home. As far as I am concerned, that is what is making EuroLeague Women so exciting!

Lets see what's going to happen this week, so we can make a round up after the first half of the group stages! Having said that, nobody is giving out presents in EuroLeague Women right now and for that, we all have to wait until Christmas to get some presents!

Just finishing with my own team, it would be really nice if we could win both games on the road that are coming up. As I have already explained, we know that both of our opponents in Beretta Famila Schio and Wisla Can-Pack are great teams. On that basis, we have to be ready and prepared for both games one hundred percent and absolutely no less!

Good luck to everybody and I will no doubt talk to you all soon!
