Serbia ran out comfortable winners over Romania in their EuroBasket Women Additional Qualifying Tournament opener as the game was even more lop-sided than the 77-64 scoreline suggested.
Serbia used an 11-0 run in the second quarter to power themselves into a 20-point lead before half-time.
Romania did their best to chip away at it, but trailed 72-51 when Dragana Gobejlic sank a three-pointer with 7:35 to go.
But from then on, Romania were much the better team, and Serbia will have been grateful to have had such a comfortable lead as their opponents rallied.
Maria Pascalau's jump-shot started 13-5 Romania run to finish the game as they scored the final eight points to lend the result a more balanced appearance.
Jelena Milovanovic scored 18 points to lead Serbia while Jelena Maksimovic had 13 and 10 rebounds.
Maja Milikovic and Ivanka Matic had 10 points each, with the latter adding six rebounds.
Gabriela Marginean led Romania with 12 points while Ancuta Stoeneuscu added 11 and Elisabeth Pavel collected nine points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals.
Serbia Head Coach Miodrag Veskovic:
"Winning the first game is important, the victory gives us moral and motivation. I'm very satisfied because the team did a good job in offence using the tall players and in defence one on one. Now we look forward with confidence and with great desire to do our best in the second round against Italy, tomorrow."
Serbia Player Jelena Milovanovic:
"First of all congratulations to Romania because they played a good game. We had a great game in the first quarter, in the second we used our advantage playing with intelligence. Now we want to continue our winning streak."
Romania Head Coach Stacey Tremayne Nolan:
"I'm disappointed because we didn't play good basketball, we made too many mistakes, lost a lot of balls and easy shots. We must improve in rebounding and intensity. Now we have to think and analyse all that happened. However, Serbia is a great team and deserved the victory."
Romania Player Alexandra Uiuiu:
"I have to congratulate Serbia who played very well. We all are young and we must start playing as a team. We can't get always high intensity, in the second half we improved our game but it wasn't enough. So we are looking to the future."
