Bulgaria got on top of the Netherlands early on and rode the strong start to a 70-62 triumph in the last EuroBasket Women Additional Qualifying Tournament game for both sides.
With no chance of progressing, each team wanted to end their campaign on a high and thanks to strong performances from Donneka Hodges and Jaklin Zlatanova, Bulgaria prevailed.
Hodges had 19 points and Zlatanova nine, along with a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Bulgarians jumped out to a 39-24 lead by half-time and stayed on top, though the Dutch mounted a furious comeback that saw them close the gap to 59-55 with 6:19 to go in the fourth quarter.
Still leading by four with 3:13 to go, Bulgaria got a three-ball and then a jump shot from veteran Jaklin Zlatanova.
The Netherlands continued to fight but ended up falling by eight.
Both national teams ended up with 2-2 records in Group A.
Tanya Bröring finished with 17 points and seven rebounds in defeat.
Bulgaria Head Coach Jose Maria Buceta:
"For us it was an important game, because we played for the second place of the group. We came here to qualify for the EuroBasket Women, but the Hungarian team was too strong for us. So we wanted to take the second position. We won tonight, but also want to congratulate the Netherlands, because they were able to come up from minus 20 points."
Netherlands Head Coach Meindert Van Veen:
"I'm proud of my team, because they came back to the game in the second half. We were down by 20 points, but did not give up. It was okay."
