GAME REPORT

Lithuania Back On Track Against Dutch

Lithuania shrugged off their shock 15 point loss in Italy to renew their stranglehold on Group A of EuroBasket Women Qualifying Round with an 80-67 success in Netherlands thanks to a special performance by Sandra Linkeviciene.

The point guard finished with a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds to show she knows how to work the glass while she didn't let her bread and butter game get disrupted either. She also dished up six assists to finish with a fantastic line and keep her team on course to potentially stamp their ticket early.

For Netherlands it was something of a mental challenge facing Lithuania after they were trashed in their first game of the campaign and while they suffered another loss, they at least made the visitors work much harder for this win.

They kept pace with the group leaders throughout an entertaining first half and only trailed 38-37 heading into the locker rooms.

However a disastrous start to the third quarter was to prove their demise as Lithuania posted a 16-2 run to blow the hosts out of the water.

While they tried hard to rally in the last period, Netherlands couldn't recover and consequently Lithuania strolled to victory.

Ausra Bimbaite also impressed with 18 points and eight rebounds while Agne Abromaite recorded an all action 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Leonie Kooij was the stand-out for Netherlands once again with 21 points.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Netherlands vs. Lithuania

Netherlands coach Meindert van Veen:
"The game was almost tied after the fisrt half, but what we showed after the break was dramatic. You can't rebound like that. Our target is still one of the first four spots. But that's going to be difficult."

Netherlands player Leonie Kooij:

"We wanted to take revenge for the big loss in Lithuania. We started well, but you can't start the second half like we did. That's impossible against a team like Lithuania. The [lost] rebounds was the key of the game."

Lithuania coach Algirdas Paulauskas:
"We expected a tough match, because Croatia lost here and Italy came very close to losing. In the second half we came together and we rebounded very well. That was the most important factor for the win."

Lithuania player Vaida Sipaviciute:
"We started a little bit slow, but in the second half we played well. But it was tough, like all the games in our group."
