France's perfect record in EuroBasket Women qualifying Group C came to an end on Wednesday night as they suffered a 63-55 loss to Slovakia in Kosice.
Having come through their first five games undefeated, France went down as Pokey Chatman's team built a big early lead and held on to it to claim their third victory of the campaign.
Slovakia got hot early in the first quarter and went on a 14-2 run to lead 19-7 when Gabriela Kubatova sank a jump-shot.
|Zuzana Zirková had 11 points for Slovak Republic|
The score was 31-14 when Kubatova turned in a lay-up early in the second quarter, but France then went on a 12-4 run to close back in, and they went to the locker rooms down 10, 37-27.
The visitors then really turned up the heat, scoring the first eight points of the second half to close within two when Celine Dumerc sank a three-pointer.
Slovakia managed to get their lead back out to five and held France at arm's length through the rest of the quarter, getting the advantage back to 10 when Zuzana Zirkova made a lay-up with 34 seconds left in the period.
That seemed to knock the stuffing out of the French, and they could not get the margin under five again.
Kubatova led Slovakia with 14 points while Bronislava Borovickova had 12, Zirkova 11 and Lucia Kupcikova 10. Zirkova also added nine rebounds.
France wasted 18 points and eight rebounds from Dumerc.
