Annemarie Parau scored 16 points in 23 minutes to lead Romania to a 67-63 win over Serbia in Targoviste on Wednesday.
The two teams last met at EuroBasket Women 2005 when Serbia & Montenegro ran out winners, 63-50.
Just five players from that roster made the trip to Romania for Serbia with coach Jovica Antonic electing to take several young players who have shined for the U18 and U20 teams in the past two years.
Miljana Musovic, Maja Miljkovic, Dunja Prcic and Jelena Dubljevic were all included on the roster, but only Dubljevic saw any court time and that was limited to two minutes.
Instead it was stalwarts Ana Jokovic, Milka Bjelica, Marina Puskar and Jelena Skerovic who led Serbia, each scoring in double figures. But it was not enough to pull out a victory.
Ildiko Vass added 15 points for Romania and center Maria Pascalau pulled down 11 rebounds.
Serbia have a chance to get their qualifying campaign back on track at home to Finland on Saturday. Romania have a short break before facing Finland on September 13th in Helsinki.
