By David HeinLithuania and Romania go into their second Group B match-up in Lanciano looking for their first victory but the losses were a tale of two games, as Romania feel like they came away with a morale victory in nearly beating Germany while Lithuania appeared in shambles in a poor loss to Belgium.
Both teams know a victory on Tuesday would improve greatly their chances of moving onto
the preliminary round but both teams also realise there are quite a few areas to improve upon.
|Annemarie Parau had 13 points and five assists in Romania's loss to Germany.|
Last Time Out: Lithuania looked bad in losing to Belgium 68-53, and Romania fought hard but couldn't beat Germany, losing 85-78.
Key Match-Up: Iveta Marcauskaite vs Maria Pascalau. The Lithuanian did a decent job in slowing down Belgian star Ann Wauters (15 points on 5-of-12 shooting, seven rebounds and three assists), but the rest of the Belgians were just too much for the Baltic side. Pascalau meanwhile was Romania's main force against Germany, scoring 26 points. This match-up could decide the game.
X-Factor: Lina Brazdeikyte. The Lithuania captain scored just three points on 1-of-5 shooting and 1-of-4 free throws while committing seven turnovers. Expect the 1997 EuroBasket champion to bounce back.
Stats: Romania allowed Germany to shoot 13-of-25 (52%) from three-point range while Lithuania must improve on their 26 turnovers in the loss against Belgium
Sounding Off: Romania coach Marc Silvert: "This is just basketball. It's not like the end of your life. Some players need a big message. Others don't. I know tomorrow will be another day. We have nothing to lose against Lithuania. We just have to grab one game. We still have two chances. I just hope all my players are like Maria Pascalau and are ready to go."
