The Romanian Basketball Federation announced Tuesday that Dexia Namur coach Marc Silvert has agreed to become the new head coach of the women's senior national team for the 2007
EuroBasket in Italy.

The Frenchman comes to Romania from the Belgian club, which reached the eighth-finals of the EuroLeague Women.

"The main reason we brought him in is because we think he will help our players learn to play better basketball," federation president Carmen Tocala told PA Sport.

Silvert has won both the Belgian league championship and the Belgian Cup in each of the last two seasons.

The 2007 crowns were won with Romanian playmaker Annemarie Parau at the helm on the court.

The national team guard averaged 6.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists for Silvert's team in the EuroLeague women competition, where Dexia Namur lost against Fenerbahce.

Silvert will start his work in earnest on July 24, when the Romanian team begin their EuroBasket preparations with a training camp.

Tocala could not say if Bogdan Bocaniala, who coached Romania through the qualifiers, would remain with the team.

Romania will face Germany, Lithuania and Belgium in Group B of the EuroBasket in Lanciano.
