Poland Earn Revenge With Win Over Germany

Poland tied Germany for the top spot in Group C after defeating the previously unbeaten German side 65-56.

After suffering a loss to Germany 10 days ago, Poland earned revenge to record their third victory in four games.

Agnieszka Bibrzycka was once again the key to Poland’s success.

Agnieszka Bibrzycka scored 24 for Poland.
The 1.84-cm guard scored 24 points to improve her scoring average to 21.8 ppg – third best in the EuroLeague Women Qualifying Round.

Bibrzycka was in the center of Poland’s 14-0 second quarter run which put her side in command with a double-digit lead.

Trailing 24-22 at the outset of the second quarter, Natalia Waligorska started the Polish run by hitting a jumper.

Bibrzycka reeled of five straight points on two field goals and a free throw.

Waligorska then added a three-pointer and jumpers from Ewelina Kobryn and Aleksandra Karpinska made the score 36-24.

Poland would hold a double-digit advantage almost the entire the second half.

Germany was able to get within seven (60-53) with 3:35 to go before the final buzzer, but a free throw from Magdalena Leciejewska followed by a three-pointer from Bibrzycka with 1:55 to go put Poland back ahead by 11, 64-53.

Bibrzycka added another from the free-throw line with 1:15 remaining to increase the lead to 12 and end any chance of a German comeback.

Linda Fröhlich led Germany with 16 points and 17 rebounds.
