Hungary finally picked up win number one in EuroBasket Women qualifying action on Wednesday night.
The Hungarians dropped their opening two contests against Greece and Belarus, but came good on the road in Pravets against Bulgaria thanks to a red hot third quarter display.
Reka Cserny scored 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for Hungary, while Krisztina Papp had 18 off the bench and point guard Dalma Ivanyi pulled down an impressive 12 rebounds to go along with 9 points.
After a close first half, Hungary surged ahead in the third quarter with an impressive offensive onlsaught.
Bulgaria also came out firing and a Silviya Peeva three-pointer gave them a 36-28 lead. But Hungary replied with four straight shots, including two threes, to tie the scores at 38-38.
The Bulgarians countered with another three-ball, but Hungary dominated the final four minutes with a 12-1 run which included another four straight shots and they took a 52-41 lead into the final quarter.
Hungary kept Bulgaria at bay in the fourth period thanks to some more accurate shooting led by Papp, who had 10 of her 18 points in the final ten minutes.
Bulgaria face Belarus in Minsk on Saturday while Hungary travel to Volos to play Greece.
