Belarus Snatch Late Win

Katsiaryna Snytsina's three-pointer with 12 seconds left in the game lifted Belarus to a 70-66 win over Bulgaria in their EuroBasket Women qualifiying opener in Sofia.

The shot capped an impressive fourth quarter display from Belarus, who outscored Bulgaria 21-10 over the final 10 minutes to take the victory.

A disastrous start by Belarus made any type of victory seem unlikely. They scored just 4 points in the game's opening five minutes, by which time Bulgaria led 16-4.

Belarus fought back to 28-19 at the end of the first period, but Bulgaria remained firmly on top and it would stay that way until miday through the third quarter.

Trailing 51-37 at halftime, Belarus produced a 12-0 run to cut the advantage to just two points, 51-49.

The game remained close into the final quarter but Belarus finally caught up with the hosts on a Sviatlana Volnaya lay-up with three minutes remaining, 61-61.

The lead then changed hands twice, before Ivelina Vrantcheva's jump shot gave Buglaria a 66-65 advantage.

33 seconds were showing on the clock after Vrantcheva's jumper and Belarus executed the next possession to perfection. They ran 21 seconds off the shot clock before Volha Padabed found Snytsina for the game winning three.

Bulgaria went to Vrantcheva, but her three-pointer missed and she was forced to foul in order to stop the clock, allowing Natallia Marchanka  to ice the game from the line with two free throws.

Bulgaria face Greece in their next contest, while Belarus take on Hungary.
