GAME REPORT

Israel 59 Greece 78

Greece returned to top form, albeit against strugglers Israel, as they captured their first triumph of
the European Championships on Sunday.

Victory was virtually assured in the first 10 minutes when the Greeks stormed out to a 28-13 advantage.

They added to that and led 49-26 at half-time and cruised to a 78-59 win.

There were a few nervous moments for the Greeks when Israel staged a brave 3rd quarter comeback attempt. But Greece kept their composure and quickly resumed their iron clad grip on the game.

Greece, who stunned France in their final warm-up game, came into the tournament a confident bunch but they were torn apart by the Czech Republic and Poland in their opening games.

They have not given up on a place in the final eight.

Guard Atalanti Tasouli said: "We needed this win, especially after our hard and successful preparation.

"We did not start the tournament well. But we feel better now and we hope we can get another win and qualify for the quarter-finals."

As for Israel, going winless in this tournament in looking a very real possibility.

Their Limor Mizrachi led all scorers with 25 points.
